During the February 12 meeting, the Pleasant Prairie Village Board reviewed two proposed License Agreements regarding the usage of Village-owned property in Prairie Springs Park and the Lake Andrea Beer Garden operation at 10023 Park Drive. Mike Honold of Barrel Boys Hospitality LLC and Sarah Howard, Executive Director of Visit Pleasant Prairie, presented their application proposals.
The 1.44-acre beer garden site, which successfully opened in 2023, quickly became a popular community and visitor destination on the southwest shore of Lake Andrea. The beer garden featured temporary amenities like food trucks, music, and picnic tables along the lake. The adjacent 0.8-acre festival grounds accommodated larger gatherings and special events, such as the Pleasant Prairie Harbor Market, bringing people to enjoy the atmosphere at the park. After considering both proposals, listening to staff recommendations, and hearing that Visit Pleasant Prairie withdrew its application, the Village Board granted a one-year License Agreement and Contract for the 2024 Lake Andrea Beer Garden operation to Mike Honold of Barrel Boys Hospitality.
"The Village Board's thoughtful consideration and approval of the License Agreement for the Lake Andrea Beer Garden reflects the Village's commitment to providing a vibrant community space for residents and guests," stated Village Administrator Eric Rindfleisch. "The Village is pleased that the beer garden will continue in 2024 and looks forward to the Park Commission and Village Board developing the vision for the beer garden as they work toward seeking proposals for the 2025 season and beyond."
Barrel Boys Hospitality anticipates building on the success of the beer garden's inaugural year, with plans to expand offerings and activities that include various food truck operators, beverages, and alcohol for public enjoyment. Village staff cited Barrel Boys Hospitality's prior experience operating beer gardens at Lake Andrea and Petrifying Springs Park in their recommendation to the Village Board.
The Village Board's decision ensures that the community can continue to enjoy the Lake Andrea Beer Garden in Prairie Springs Park throughout the 2024 season. Additionally, plans are underway for the Village Park Commission to solicit new proposals for beer garden services ahead of the 2025 season, ensuring the continued success of the popular venue.
