Pleasant Prairie residents and area visitors are invited to enjoy an afternoon of Halloween-themed activities at the Scary in the Prairie 5K and Trunk-or-Treat event on Saturday, October 19, in Prairie Springs Park. These events offer fun for all ages with a community trick-or-treat experience followed by a 5K walk/run event.
The Trunk-or-Treat event will happen from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Prairie Springs Park on the west side of Lake Andrea, near the beer garden parking lot. This free community event will feature local businesses and organizations handing out treats from decorated trunks. Families are encouraged to wear costumes and enjoy a safe trick-or-treating experience.
The Scary in the Prairie 5K will begin at 5:00 p.m. This timed event is open to all ages, starts and finishes at the Wruck Beach Pavilion, and follows the paved running path around Lake Andrea. The registration fee for the 5K is $30. Participants can pre-register online at
runreg.com/scary-in-the-prairie-5k until noon on Friday, October 18. On race day, in-person registration and packet pickup will be available from 4:00 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. at the Wruck Beach Pavilion. Early online registration is recommended to secure an official race shirt. The race will also feature a Best Costume Contest, with the winner receiving free registration for a future RecPlex Walk/Run event.
Sandy Wiedmeyer, Pleasant Prairie Operations Superintendent at RecPlex, has encouraged community participation, saying, "Walkers and runners of all ages are invited to dress up for the Scary in the Prairie 5K Walk/Run. This annual event is fun for families and friends to stay active during the fall. We are excited to add the Trunk-or-Treat event this year to bring even more Halloween excitement and fun for the community.”
