On Thursday, July 11, the community was invited to an open house to view conceptual ideas and framework of the Village Green Center presented by the Community Collaboration committee, Designing Downtown Pleasant Prairie. The community had the opportunity to ask questions and talk to members of the Designing Downtown Pleasant Prairie committee between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Over 300 members of the community attended the event.

“We heard a lot of positive feedback from those who attended the open house,” said Community Collaboration principle Todd Streeter, “We have a dedicated team of local community members that have a great vision of a modern downtown that would best fit the Pleasant Prairie community. It is wonderful to see so many residents attend the event and take interest in the Village Green Center.”

“I can’t say enough about this committee and their efforts,” commented Village Administrator Nathan Thiel, “It is exciting to see our community so engaged and the feedback has been wonderful.”

A presentation of the Village Green Center proposed plans from the Designing Downtown Pleasant Prairie committee will be held on Thursday, July 25, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. This presentation is open to the public. During the presentation, individuals will be able to share their comments and opinions regarding the plan with Village Board and Plan Commission members. Designing Downtown Pleasant Prairie and Village staff will be available to offer answers to questions and explanations of the plan and its purpose.

The presentation will be held in the Auditorium at Pleasant Prairie Village Hall (9915 39th Avenue). Parking for the auditorium is available on the south end of the building and is accessible through a driveway off of 100th Street. You can turn onto 100th Street directly from 39th Avenue on the south side of Village Hall.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The Village of Pleasant Prairie hired Todd Streeter, principal, Community Collaboration, to assist with the process of developing the framework for the future development of Village Green Center downtown development that launched in January.

The Village invited residents of all ages and backgrounds, business owners, commercial property owners, and community organizations to participate in developing new ideas and concepts for the development of approximately 180 acres of land known as Village Green Center, a mixed-use development consisting of commercial, residential, and institutional land use.

Earlier this year, the Village purchased 72 acres of land at Springbrook Road (consisting of five parcels) for $3.7 million. Previous efforts to develop the land were stalled due to poor market conditions and private developer ownership.

The new citizen committee called Designing Downtown Pleasant Prairie was formed to develop a wide variety of redevelopment recommendations including housing options, business development, park and recreation amenities, and public and civic facilities. Other areas of focus include environment-friendly solutions, project marketing, and the downtown’s aesthetics, character, branding, and themes.

This engagement process was designed to let the community drive all aspects of the project’s concept development allowing interested citizens to literally create a wide range of ideas and concepts that will directly influence ongoing development activities undertaken by the Village.
