11/02/2007 | Pleasant Prairie Police Officer Awarded the Copen Family Justice Award
Village of Pleasant Prairie Police Officer Lt. Mark Hunter was recently awarded the Lee and Lynn Copen Family Justice Award by Women and Children's Horizons in Kenosha. Lt. Hunter was awarded the honor, "…for his dedication to victims of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault; his true understanding of the dynamics of being a victim; and his follow through with services making the experiences less traumatic for the victim," according to Pam Carper, Assistant Executive Director for Women and Children's Horizons.
Women and Children's Horizons is a Kenosha based organization that provides support to victims of sexual and domestic violence and abuse. The Lee and Lynn Copen Family Justice honor is awarded each year at the Women and Children's Horizons annual meeting. It is awarded in memory of Lt. LeRoy Copen, a former Kenosha County Sheriff's Department Lieutenant, and his wife Lynn, a former Victim Witness Coordinator for the Kenosha County District Attorney and a strong supporter of the organization. Lt. Hunter was nominated for the honor by staff at Women and Children's Horizons.
The Police Department and the entire Village of Pleasant Prairie would like to extend its congratulations to Lt. Hunter for the honor and its sincere thanks for the great care he takes when performing his duties as a Pleasant Prairie Police Officer. The Department would also like to recognize the important role that Women and Children's Horizons plays in our community. The support offered to victims in traumatic circumstances is an invaluable asset.
