Members of the community have shown an overwhelming response to the Workout-To-Lose program offered at RecPlex. Workout-to-Lose is an eight-week fitness challenge. Ninety-six participants from the community have formed 24 enthusiastic teams and will compete in the weight loss challenge. RecPlex has been running two Workout-to-Lose programs per year, one in the spring and the other in the fall. Response to the program has increased with each competition.
During the challenge, teams of four receive a fitness assessment to kick-off the competition. Teams, under the guidance of a personal trainer, then work towards their goal of losing weight. Teams participate in weekly: exercise programs, weight loss tracking, private weigh-ins, and health and wellness seminars. At the end of the challenge, teams receive another fitness assessment to measure their progress. The competition concludes with an awards ceremony where teams celebrate their successes. Weekly results will be posted to RecPlexOnline.com. Those interested can check to see how their favorite team is progressing throughout the competition, which runs now through December 12.
"With each competition we've held, at least 200 collective pounds have been lost by participants," explained Karin Brown, Fitness and Wellness Director at RecPlex. "But the really amazing part has been the overwhelming acceptance of the healthy approach to losing weight. Participants in this program seemed to have set aside the more extreme methods of weight loss and have really embraced a healthy, balanced and sustainable solution that combines both physical activity and sensible eating."
Because of the increased community response each time the program is run, RecPlex has plans to add a winter Workout-to-Lose program that will begin on January 7, 2008. For more information about the program or to be placed on a contact list for the next event, please call 262/925-6743
